Welcome, Annie Effinger, SIO CalCOFI’s new Oceanographic Technician

We are excited to welcome Annie Effinger to the SIO CalCOFI oceanographic team! Annie graduated from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in marine biology, focusing on zooplankton ecology and biological oceanography.
The picture above was taken aboard the R/V Sally Ride during the ACES 2024 cruise in the Santa Barbara Basin, where the team collected sediment cores to study biogeochemical processes and benthic ecosystem dynamics.
As an oceanographic technician for CalCOFI, her responsibilities include assisting in post-cruise data processing, equipment maintenance, instrument calibrations, and cruise preparation. At sea, her primary responsibilities will include deploying and recovering equipment, sampling from the CTD, and analyzing CTD samples.
Annie enjoys rock climbing, swimming, and photography. When she’s not out at sea, you can often find her hanging off rock walls or exploring the outdoors with her friends.
We’re so happy to welcome Annie to our team!
