NOAA-CalCOFI Ocean Genomics (NCOG)

The NOAA-CalCOFI Ocean Genomics (NCOG) Project is a partnership between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO).

On daily noon stations and cardinal stations (lines 80 and 90; see map), RNA and DNA seawater samples are collected from 10m and the depth of the chlorophyll maximum (i.e. the depth of highest chlorophyll-a concentration, which varies from station to station). RNA is also sampled from 170 m and 515 m where possible.

NCOG samples have been collected on all cruises since February 2014 (CalCOFI 1402SH).

Raw sequence data are deposited in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Sequence Read Archive (SRA) under the BioProject accessions PRJNA555783 and PRJNA665326
